Protein is imperative for the results you wish to achieve. It is used by your body to build, repair and maintain muscle tissue. Amino acids are the foundation of protein and there’s about 9 out of approximately 20 amino acids that are essential because your body cannot make them. When you workout, the goal is to break down the muscle tissue so that it can rebuild stronger and protein fuels the repair process.
We need about to 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound of our body weight for optimal muscle growth. There’s plenty of food such as chicken, turkey, eggs…etc that are loaded with protein. However, for additional protein, a whey protein powder is crucial. Personally, I reward myself with a protein shake after I workout. It’s best to have it within a half hour of working out so that it can be most effective.
Instead of 3 large meals a day, most experts recommend that you have at least 6 small meals a day. A protein shake can substitute for a meal. I like to have an after-workout shake in the morning before breakfast and a before-bed shake at night. In between the shakes, I have about 5 small meals – Breakfast, Mid-morning snack, Lunch, Mid-afternoon snack, Dinner so I can keep my metabolism high.
Do yourself and your body a favor and buy some protein. It will be one of the best investments for your health that you will ever make.
